History session Panthera X evolution

Jalle Jungell, founder of Panthera, was disabled at 22 by a road accident that broke his back. Refusing to let his disability define him, he turned to sports and encountered a new challenge: the inadequacy of traditional wheelchairs for active lifestyles.

Driven by his own experiences, he embarked on a mission to create a wheelchair like no other—one that could withstand the rigors of extreme activities. Thus began his journey into the world of wheelchair design.

Years passed, and his passion only grew stronger. A turning point came when an American engineer joined his company. With expertise in working with cutting-edge materials like carbon fiber, the engineer brought a fresh perspective and a revolutionary idea - to build a wheelchair using this lightweight yet incredibly strong material.

But it wasn't just about functionality— it was about making a statement. To ensure that their creation was not only practical but also aesthetically pleasing, they enlisted the help of a talented designer. Together, they worked to integrate form and function, blending materials, graphics, and textiles into a harmonious whole.

Drawing on the expertise of collaborators who had worked in rehabilitation, alongside first hand feedback from wheelchair users, they refined the design until it meet all the needs they had defined. During the first years post launch, the product exceeded expectations in terms of both sales volumes and user satisfaction.

Building on their success, Permobil acquired Panthera in 2022 and has continued to innovate. The new Panthera X3 features as a fold-down backrest for enhanced transportability, increased frame strength and increased user weight capacity, as well as its innovative seat upholstery for added comfort and support reflect Panthera's ongoing commitment to innovation and user-centric design. Increased rear axle configurability further ensures personalized solutions tailored to individual needs.

Permobil wants to reaffirm our commitment to pushing boundaries of wheelchair design. And as we look to the future, one thing is clear: the journey is far from over.

Redesigned with a sleek, modern look, maintaining its signature low weight, and now with even greater configurability tailored to your needs.
